ALUMNOS/STUDENTS:

"Last summer I spend the month of July with an American family in Pennsylvania. It was a fantastic experience as I learnt lots of things like the culture, the food, the costumes, the people from there, and the language too. I had the luck to stay with a wonderful family who treated me as a member of their family and taught me many different things. They also took me many places such as New York City, Washington DC, Baltimore, Pittsburgh...To sum up, it was so good that I'm going back again this summer! "

-Marina, 16

The trip and stay were great! The family was very loving and I did a lot of activities with them. You learn a lot of new vocabulary and expressions."

-Pablo A., 14

-Ignacio P. y Familia

"I spent three weeks in the Valladolid region of Spain and had a great time. I did not know much Spanish before going, but learned a lot while there. I saw amazing castles all over the Castilla y León region, Christopher Colombus House, Museums, Churches and Cathedrals, made new friends, and tried many new delicious foods. I had a wonderful time and can´t wait to go back!"

FAMILIAS DE ACOGIDA / HOST FAMILIES:

Heather Espeso has a unique ability to connect two very diverse cultures.  We have hosted students for many years, and have always found Heather’s students to have exceptional language skills and come motivated to learn and enjoy the USA. Exceptional educational experience for all involved, with the added blessing of lifelong friendships!

"In the summer of 2011 our family hosted 2 exchange students with United Cultures. We had a 14 year old boy for the month of July and a 19 year old lady from the end of August into September. The Espeso family was always in contact with us. We were well informed of flight information, expectations, rules, and regulations. The students sent to us, were very well matched to our family. They were outgoing, fun, respectful, always willing to try new things, and appreciative of the experience. The cultural lessons our family learned were also a great benefit to our family. We look forward to hosting more students this year with United Cultures and hopefully for many years to come. Thank you for including us :)"

-The Berlin family, PA

"We had a lot of fun hosting Paloma last summer. She instantly became a part of our family and adapted to our daily routine. We took her on our houseboat on the weekends and around to see some sights such as the Amish community nearby. Having her as a part of our family brought some of a different culture into our home. We learned many things from Paloma through her stories about her own Spanish customs."

-Cerra Family, PA

"It was very enjoyable to have our student this past summer. We just wish he could have stayed longer. We would/ recommend it to anyone."

-The Jones / Belec families, NY

"In the summer of 2011 we had a 16 year boy stay with us from United Cultures. It was a great experience for the exchange student and our entire family. The calibre of students that United Cultures brings to Spain is exceptional. I would be very proud if our three children grow into the fine young adult that visited our home last summer. He was a great influence on our children and we all learnt a great deal. We would love to repeat the experience."

COLEGIOS / SCHOOLS:

INTERNSHIPS:

Hello, my name is Liljana and I am from Germany. Heather gave me the opportunity to do an internship at United Cultures. For me, it was a great experience. I could participate in every activity of the school and the exchange program. Being able to teach and integrate my own ideas into my work. It was a pleasure to work there because I received a lot of support and everyone was kind and caring, so I was a part of the whole rather than just an intern. On top of that, I was living in Valladolid, which is a great city. There is a lot to see, explore and learn about the city and the Spanish culture. So not only did I have a good time, I also learned a lot interculturally and as a teacher. I really recommend that experience to everyone who is interested to work in the field of language teaching and to live in Spain for a little while.

-Liljana

"Hello, my name is Dana Filsinger and I had the pleasure of living and working in Valladolid, Spain. I went in February of 2013 and worked as an English teaching intern for United Cultures until May.
It was such an incredible experience! While I was there, I lived with a lovely host family. I had an older sister, older brother, and a wonderful mother and father.
They were all so generous and kind to me. The best part about living with a host family was learning all of their unique and interesting customs, along with the general Spanish culture. The city itself, Valladolid, was so beautiful and historic. It was filled with fantastic people and amazing sights. Since I taught at many locations in the city, I had the ability to explore a lot in between classes. This was so much fun to me! There are so many museums, beautiful buildings, huge parks and kind people. Before I had arrived to Valladolid, I had never taught any classes before. However, I quickly learned and became comfortable with my teaching routine. I received so much help and support throughout my time in Valladolid, as well.
The experience of living and teaching abroad was absolutely one of a kind and I am so grateful that I was able to be there. I absolutely recommend this opportunity to anyone who considers this fantastic experience. "
